About Us

Filippo and Rachel Gentile immigrated to the United States from a small town in the Molise region. They married and began their American dream together by working very hard so that one day they can open their own bakery, a passion of Rachel’s.

To begin this journey, Filippo worked as a full time carpenter and Rachel as a full time seamstress for 21 years. In 1993, while Filippo continued his carpentry work, Rachel began what is known today as Gentile’s Bakery-Deli-Catering located in Old Brooklyn. Rachel started out the business by making delicious sandwiches “Panini” with her own freshly baked bread and fresh imported Italian meats as well as Filippo’s own homemade sausage, copicollo and prosciutto. Rachel’s own homemade pastries, using the ingredients that her mother and grandmother used brings the personal Old Italian style of pride in baking and cooking. Rachel’s personal touch and her mother’s words “the ingredients, and the love and passion you put into the preparation of your meals will give much pleasure to the palate” and the family commitment of working together has been the better part of their success. Filippo and Rachel’s two children, Nancy and Alberto, have worked side by side with their parents from a young age, learning the meaning of family togetherness and the importance of respect and pride in your work. In 1993, Filippo and Rachel found it necessary to expand their Bakery-Deli to include Catering. It is at 4464 Broadview Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio that you will find Filippo, Rachel and their son, Alberto working hard in making sure their customers enjoy each morsel, while their daughter, Nancy is busy running and overseeing the family’s newly acquired restaurant, Agostino’s located on Ridge Road, Brooklyn, Ohio.

The Gentiles’ family commitment is to give their customers their personal Italian welcome and a taste of authentic Italian pastries and breads.
